IBM has created a machine that is an archivist's dream-- I can restore a backup tape created over 20 years ago on a System/38 on our new i5 System. Assuming I can find a tape drive to match, that is. And as long as any programs were created with observability intact, they will be effectively re-compiled and will run on the latest hardware.

I can 'uncompile' CL programs.

Until I reorganize a file, I can un-delete records deleted at the System level.

I can write, compile, and run COBOL programs. Perhaps not a major selling point, but if your company is combining systems, this one can do it!

I can run CICS (assuming anyone still knows how to set it up).

I can communicate with almost anything using almost any communication protocol ever invented... uh, I think Token Ring is out of the picture these days.
