I figured out how to get rid of the directories.... I renamed some of
the long directories in the offending path and was then able to delete
them.

I still don't understand why the install isn't working in the first
place. I'm guessing it has to do with these ridiculous long paths...

I am now attempting to install from the SEVEN cd's instead of the one
DVD.

For all you kids out there that love Windows...

Ya know, I used to dial in at 1200 baud and write programs...

Yabba dabba do!

Subject: WDSC 6 Install Problem

So I finally got tired of all the "have you tried the NEW way" messages
when using PDM, so I dusted off the WDSC 6 DVD that I got with my v5r4
shipment.

First it takes forever to install. Then it takes two forevers to
download and install the updates. It's almost 4GB of stuff, thousands
of files, 15 thousand FOLDERS (???). All this to have a windowed
environment for SEU.

Cool.

But I'm showing my age.

Anyway, it appears to install, but none of the buttons have any graphics
or icons. I have uninstalled twice and reinstalled from scratch. No
dice.

Re the uninstall - even the UNINSTALL FAILS.

Nice...

Theh I go to manually delete the c:\PROGRAM FILES\IBM\... directory that
contains all the leftover stuff.

Gettaloaddathis... I can't because the path for something is too long.

I go digging, manually deleting things until I can go no further.

When I try to go into this folder:

C:\Program
Files\IBM\Rational\SDP\6.0\updater\workspace\proxies\eclipse\features\up
dater.rwd_shared.plugins.6011.ifix002_1.0.0\backup\files\eclipse\plugins
\com.ibm.etools.utc_6.0.2\IBMUTC\IBMUTC.ear\UTC.war\WEB-INF\classes\com\
ibm\etools\utc\form

XP tells me "you can't - the path is too long".

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

So I renamed c:\program files\ibm to c:\program files\ibm2 and attempted
the install again, this time without downloading the updates. Same
problem.

I dun get it, Lucy.

Has anyone installed this monstrosity? Am I doing something wrong?
What the heck am I supposed to do with these monster paths that I can't
get rid of? I tried sharing a folder above and deleting from there, but
that failed.

How can I get rid of this directory entry???
