Linux Install on an IXS

I am attempting to install Linux on an unsupported IXS (2890-003). All is well until the install boot at which time the the NWS goes to very on pending and I see the following in the qsysopr message queue:

Attempt the request again. If the problem continues, report the problem (ANZPRB command). Technical description . . . . . . . . : The following is a list of reason codes and their meanings: --00000001: An error occurred. Processing will continue. --00000011: Unable to use user specified configuration file. File is ignored. Look for related messages in the job log. The file referred to is PKGFILE in library QLSVT. It has the following :
SETDEFAULTS TARGETDIR ='C:\',TARGETFILE ='AUTOEXEC.BAT' ADDCONFIG VAR ='DSPMSGD',ADDWHEN ='NEVER',DELETEWHEN ='ALWAYS' ADDCONFIG ADDSTR ='D:', FILESEARCHSTR ='DOSKEY' , FILESEARCHPOS ='AFTER', UNIQUE ='YES' ADDCONFIG ADDSTR ='CD DOSUTILS', FILESEARCHSTR ='D:' , FILESEARCHPOS ='AFTER', UNIQUE ='YES' ADDCONFIG ADDSTR ='AUTOBOOT.BAT DD', FILESEARCHSTR ='CD DOSUTILS' , FILESEARCHPOS ='AFTER', UNIQUE ='YES' I think this is the standard file.
The only hits on this error message have to do with encountering the error AFTER installation so it doesn't seem to fit. 

The joblog of the session starting the NWS has the following error:
File AUTOEXEC.BAT not found. TCP/IP currently active. Error occurred initializing network server LNXSVR. Vary on completed for line LNXSVRPP. Unable to determine if 10.0.40.1 interface started. Vary on completed with errors for network server LNXSVR.
Since I cannot see the contents of the drives created by the INSLNXSVR command, I am not sure what files are copied to the virtual install drive but it appears to at least found the C:\ folder. At that point I am stumped.
Now I understand this is unsupported, but my idol is Dr. Franken and following his lead I figure there must be a way to do this. Erwin Earley is the 'go to' guy for Linux on i at IBM but he is currently on vacation. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this or have another Linux contact at IBM?
