Thank you.  We have the LAN/IP connection configured so I guess it uses
VPN and starts the VPN server for the IKE key exchange services. We will
be putting on all the latest cume and groups this weekend.  Will that
upgrade the ECS to try the https?  Do I need to change the configuration
for that?  Do I need up upgrade to V5R4?

You got it! at 5.3 depending PTF levels ECS uses a VPN connection to
attach to IBM either via ASCII Dialup (PTP) or if using the lan/internet
connection. If you have the latest and greatest it will now try HTTPS
and finally ( i think ) plain old HTTP, but I don't remember for sure
right now.

Also you may have noticed that by default the max size to download via
'dialup' is now 100MB and Lan connections are *NOMAX when using
SNDPTFORD
