Hi:

I was responding to the issue of what is "native". I tried to make it
clear (and thought I succeeded) that this didn't really matter except when
it came to expectations. Rephrased, "native" is a non-issue unless two
things are true: first, that the way something works is different from
the way other things of the same kind work when the latter have been
integrated into i5/OS/400 for a long time; and second, that a significant
reason for that difference is the history of the more recent "arrival".

I remind you that I ended my message with a brief summary of my American
genealogy, including Iroquois. It ended with something to the effect of,
"ALL of whom came from somewhere else".

Your analogy is a good one, but doesn't lead to the conclusion you
suggest. We are natives of America if we are born in America. (That
matches both the etymology and the usage of the word.) *nix utilities

were not "born" in i5/OS/400, so they are not "native".

So, RPG and COBOL aren't 'native either?
