Jeff,

After you duplicate the tape, BRMS knows you have done this, but the media
information that is on the tape doesn't, since you have an exact copy of
the 'from tape'. After you duplicate the tape, you save the updated media
information to the end of the tape. That way, if you needed to do a
recovery from one of the duplicated tapes, you won't have a problem.

I hope this helps.

Glenn Gundermann

Twice a week we do a DUPMEDBRM to 2 different tapes which are stored
offsite
at 2 different locations.

Last week at COMMON, in a session by Debbie Saugen, we were told that when
doing a DUPMEDBRM we also needed to do a SAVMEDIBRM to the duplicated
tape.
There were a few, like me, who didn't know that, a few who did, and the
majority who seemed disinterested.

What is this command doing for me? If I already have all that info on the
"from" tape, is it not duplicated onto the "to" tape?

The archives and manuals don't seem to have much about it, other than
stressing that after saving save files, you really must do a SAVMEDIBRM.
