Joel,

We are in the midst of transitioning to an HA setup. We've been using BRMS
for several years. We run transactions 24/7, and our plan now is to move
the backups to the HA box.

Basically, our primary system will embed a message in the journals sent to
the backup box to stop applying the journals. This will trigger our backup
programs on the backup box to start running. After the backup program
finishes, it will signal the journal apply programs to restart the journal
application programs, and to apply all of the transactions that have been
generated while the primary box has been running. The primary box doesn't
have to stop to do backup, and the backup box will catch up in 15-30
minutes.

Subject
BRMS

How many folks on this list use BRMS to handle all of their backup and
recovery needs? Does anyone use BRMS as part of their High Availability
Solution? Has anyone done a full system restore using BRMS?

We are quickly moving towards not having any time for a traditional
downtime for Backups. I want to get a leg up on solutions that shrink
that backup window as much as possible, before I'm asked to provide such
a solution. I had heard that BRMS will allow you to perform Full system
backups and incremental backups while active.

Any advice is appreciated.
