No, just kidding.  I always use virtual media, even on local upgrades. 
Know how fun it is to be halfway into an upgrade just to find the 10th
CD is bad?  You just don't have that problem with virtual media.
You're right, it might take a huge pipe to distribute them remotely. 
However you could have a monkey load the CD's for you at the remote site
while you execute the commands to add the image catalogs into virtual
media - ahead of time.  Then when you do the upgrade you're ready to
rock and roll.
