On a similar line... We had some kind of problem here, and one of the
network guys came over and suggested we reboot the AS400 (sorry, just
can't get away from the name I'm used to. Guess I haven't had enuf time
to get used to the new one, er, ones...). I told him, "You don't reboot
AS400s." As expected, they found the problem somewhere outside the
AS400...

This just reminded me of an Oracle funny that happened a year or so ago.

I was at a customer site working on a report delivery project and all of
a sudden a voice came on over the intercom system:

"Could everyone please log out of Oracle. We need to reboot the
server."

Talk about funny :-)

When Steve gets his p5 in production it should be interesting to hear
how many programmers and operators it will take to screw in a lightbulb.

Dang..we hate to see you go Steve....now that you'll have your beloved
p5 guess you don't really need to bug us anymore...

By the way how much does a p5 cost when you add security software &
setup, webserver (include manhours), DB tuning, spool file control,
infinitely better job control, easier operation & messaging features??

Just a guess but by the time you "a la carte" all of OS/400 features to
p5, there's not really that much of a difference in TCO & OS/400 will
still simply be miles ahead of the capabilities & features of the p5.

Thanks,
Tommy Holden
