Most tasks have a 2-letter prefix for the general category or subsystem, then a more descriptive name. E.g., save-restore tasks start with LD for load-dump - the internal names for save and restore, not necessarily in that order. ;-) SM is storage management, IO is what you think it is. This is just a general observation, not based on any explicit documentation. I was contracted to Rochester for a short time and did see some of this stuff, however.

DP might be for disk problem, and DISKPROB might be the same thing - must be more to it, but that's a start. It seems likely to be a task that watches for and possibly reports problems with DASD.

Generally I find it not very helpful to know these things - tasks typically run in SLIC below the MI layer, and we have nothing we can do about them. But I also get curious about these things sometimes, although I often find out very little. There are some books, the diagnostic aids things, that might have some explanations, and they are only available in print, not on the net, I think.

A search on Google, IBM and Midrange archives returned nix ... anyone
have any idea what this is ?
What it indicates ?

Thanks and regards,
