I'm trying to figure out a few things regarding its performance.

1) Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't the 3581 tape drive have built in
hardware compression?

2) If it does have hardware compression, shouldn't it write an
Ultrium2
tape to at the maximum 400 GB?

3) How can I verify the hardware compression is on? (Nothing in
Service, Setup, Operator Guide - there was a previous posting suggesting
pins in the back of the unit, however, I am unable to locate them or
documentation referring to them)

4) I ran a SAVLIB LIB(TSTDTA) DEV(TAP01) DTACPR(*DEV). When I run a
DSPTAP DEV(TAP01) DATA(*SAVRST), I see the following: Data Compressed: No

I can run SAVLIB LIB(TSTDTA) DEV(TAP01) DTACPR(*YES) and still get: Data
Compressed: No

5) I ran a PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(3580) VOL(TST001).
Under
---M Bytes--- Section, I get 1 Read and 51764 written. I'm assuming that
means that it wrote 51764 MB? The library itself only contained 156 MB.
Any ideas on this?

Thanks,

David Charmatz
