Karl, there are a number of customers that are doing exactly what 
you want to do and doing it very successfully.

The only iSeries hardware you MAY need is another ethernet 
adapter for the traffic that would flow due to the NFS accesses.  

As far as what you need for the xSeries and its disk, your 
partner may be right that it can get pricey, but from all the 
other customers I've talked with, they didn't see it that way.
