and all the OS features and tools needed to run a secure, active shop
are equally bundled in both OS's ?? Any discussion that is less than
full and total cost of operation is like comparing cars only by horsepower
and number of doors. TCO what's needed. If I've got to hire a DB admin
to watch a machine, the comparison is useless.
Having said that, it's been clear to all the i5 has a hard time competing.

This is familar song from you. I am curious as to what
you think a current box with the OS should cost ?

I'll make it simple...entry level box with 10 users
which currently sells for $11k from IBM.

What exactly do you think that box should sell for ?

for the same price a p5/AIX/DB2 system would sell for.
http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/p/hardware/entry/505/91151f1a.html

1 core p5 505 express: $3400
AIX 5.3: $150
3 yr SWMA: $807
DB2: $624 + $124 per user. 10 users: $1864
total price: $6221

That is almost half the price for CPW that well exceeds the 600 CPW of
the i5 520 entry.
