I faced that same problem a few years ago, and set up the connection in the client access properties to use a special user that couldn't do anything and whose password never expired. The user then logged in to the emulation screen using his own ID. If your users log in to the network, you could also make the iSeries password match the network password if the user IDs are identical, and tell client access to use the network user for making the connection (also in client access properties). In my situation, the users didn't log in to the network. Since many of the people were not very computer savvy, and didn't read English very well, it was still not uncommon for a user to disable his password, so we also set up a green screen app that was available to supervisors only, which allowed a supervisor to reset the passwords of the floor people. It was then up to the supervisor to reset the password and help the user get it changed during the initial logon. It worked pretty well in that situation, but we only had a small number of shop floor terminals. BTW, we couldn't use a generic user, because we needed to capture the user ID for job tracking purposes.
