In this case, though, it appears that the problem wasexternal to the system itself: the power coming out of theUPS it was connected to apparently dropped out long enoughto crash the 170, the 40s, and the WinDoze box currentlyrunning our mail server (everything else on that UPS wasinherently self-resetting).

No dip in the utility power. No red light on the frontpanel of the UPS. We're now officially very, very pissedat APC.
