somewhere lives a system that can convert that...
talk to a CE. They know where the old systems are maintained.

I have some source code saved on a Sys/38 that I would love to get to
but can't touch the tapes.
IBM Support say's sorry can't do that.

This makes me laugh. I worked on a project back in the Sys/38 days that
was the construction of a nuclear Power Plant. When the project was
over we had to archive all our systems because of NRC rules. We all
knew that the round tape media had a limited life, but none of us
thought about the format becoming obsolete so fast. So much for
retrieving those records in a "half life".

Irrelevant. You still don't need to "resave" them.

Do the tapes have Save Files on them, where the SAVF were created back
on v4r3?

I have some 3570 Magstar tapes from an old machine (V4R3) which I need
to resave at a current level (V5R2 for us).
I kept our development machine at V4R5 specifically for this reason but
don't want to restore all the libraries (which include system libraries)
and then save at the new level. Is there a tape to tape method to
convert libraries from one version to another ? Or a better way ?
