We are looking at the Express Growth RAID edition (7143 I think...).
Because we're moving this box from the office to the plant with this new
system, we'll be looking at a 3581 or TS3100 type tape library (enough to
cover separate tapes through each week). The features (disk, memory, etc.)
packaged with the Express RAID are why the BP is recommending that box
instead of the Value.

As far as I know, the only supported support for the base 4 drives in a
520 is the embedded controller. To use the 90mb cache controller in the
520 CEC (cpu) also requires the FC6594, vs the 6574 for the imbedded
controller. Take a hard look at your actual disk performance numbers and
disk space requirements. Adding the PCI-X controller will require a 2nd
raid set.

Also earlier you mentioned getting an Express Box. Are you planning to get
a 2nd tape drive? last I checked All Express systems came with a 30/60gb
QIC unit. If you can migrate your current SW to the new system, a Value
Edition with either the internal LT02 or the 8mm may be more cost
effective.

Subject
5727 and 5776 (520+ disk options)

Ok... Who's familiar with the 520+, 5727 (embedded 40mb cache RAID
controller), and 5776 (90mb cache PCI-X RAID controller)?

It looks like I can put a 5776 in our new 520+'s CEC, but i'm trying to
figure out for sure if I can drive all 8 drives in the CEC with it. One
item i'm reading makes me think I have to drive the 4 drives in the base
slot with the embedded 5727 controller. Does anyone know this for sure?

If I can drive them all with the 5776, would it be better to drive them
all
with the 90mb controller, or split them with each controller driving 4
drives? "It depends", right? ;)
