Here is the new page from my System Values presentation:

  Name: QIGC

  Description: DBCS character indicator.

IBM Initial Value: ‘1’ (Effective with V5 R3.0)
                      ‘0’ (Prior to V5 R3.0)

  Length & Type: Character: 1

  Valid Values and their Meanings:

'1' The DBCS version is installed.
'0' The DBCS version is not installed,
so DBCS devices and users are not supported.

Comments: The operating system sets this value.

Can not be changed by user written routine.

The abbreviation DBCS stands for "Double Byte
Character Set". The letters IGC refer to
"Ideographic Character" version of the operating
system. On the System/38, QIGC referred to the
"Ideographic Character" version of the operating
system, and the term DBCS was never referred to.

In i5/OS V5R3 and future releases, support was added
to allow any NLV to support DBCS. Therefore, QIGC is
always set to ‘1’ (or on). If you have applications
that check this value, update them to use the job
level DBCS indicator. You can use the Retrieve Job
Information (QUSRJOBI) to get the job’s IGC value.

I hope that this helps.

We have a new 520 that was pre-loaded at V5R3. The system value QIGC
(DBCS) is set to 1.

Is this the new default? The related system values (QIGCCDEFNT &
QIGCFNTSIZ) are set to *NONE.

Thank you,
