Charles,

I think I can get your command to work for me. I did not realize that QSYS.LIB (all AS400 libraries) was available in the IFS. Operations Navatigator says "You must be enrolled in system distribution directory to work in QDLS". And I have no folders in QNTC.

That leaves me with ROOT,QOPENSYS,Qfilesrv.400,QOPT and file shares. I assume file shares are just logical views of files in the ROOT or other folders.

So your command will get me everything else?

What happens to objects in use? I have IBM faxserver and Communigate Mailserver running all the time. Will it skip over the files in use?

Everybody else has answered your question about saving the IFS directly
to tape.

Let me point out that if you save the entire IFS, you end up trying to
save everything in the library file system again along with any windows
shares the iSeries can see.

Thus, the normal command for saving everything in the IFS not saved by
some other method is:
SAV DEV('/QSYS.LIB/media-device-name.DEVD') OBJ(('/*') ('/QSYS.LIB'
*OMIT) ('/QDLS' *OMIT) ('/QNTC' *OMIT) UPDHST(*YES)

HTH,

Charles Wilt
