All else being equal, it is reasonable to conclude that the GUI
application has been developed more recently. I realize that all else
isn't equal most of the time.

Nor do I think that "modern-ness" is a virtue we should be concerned
about. But the point here is that businesses are trying to improve
their processes, and need to improve the systems in support of that. One term for this is "modernizing." That makes sense, because they
want the systems to support more modern processes.

My point is that many AS/400 green screen RPG programmers don't have a
modern outlook, and are unwilling to expend the effort to modernize
their programming. And the executives will not trust to modernize
their processes the IT person who is not willing to modernize his/her
own processes.

I realize that this is the perception that most non-IT folks have, but
that is just wrong. A green screen ap can be just as modern as a GUI ap.

Agreed, although as I noted in another post I think that GUI has more
potential.
