The K will make a difference in the way the file is read, and yes, you can add records to an input file.

But shouldn't the file type be either 'U' or 'O'? I never tried adding records to an Input file, but RPG IV is so advanced maybe it can handle it.

This is not clear to me. An RPGLE program adds records to an externally described, keyed, file.
