I recall what a joy it was to use indexed disk files on the
S/3, S/32, etc,etc. I never used multi-format files after
I saw that. We didn't see "alternate index" for a few more
years and logicals were still down the road.

And just to put it in context, I started on a S/32 back in 1976 and have experience with multi-format files on the S/32, S/34, and S/36. Pat's statements aren't necessarily true for the S/32, S/34, S/36, S/3, etc., but they are true for the S/38, AS/400, iSeries, i5, System i, and whatever the #$@ other name IBM may choose to use tomorrow or the next day.
