I don't agree. I would bet that the reason that Microsoft doesn't support it isn't technical, it is $$$. They would rather sell a new license rather than support the movement of a license from one PC to another. Technically there is no reason why it won't work. It is probably done hundreds, even thousands of times a day, successfully. But Bill needs the money. Thus, it is "unsupported".

doing it?  Sure.

But you can hardly expect IBM to support an action Microsoft doesn't on
a Microsoft OS.

Does Dell support it on there PC servers?  Nope, for the same reason IBM
doesn't support it on the IxA/IxS or standalone xSeries.

Waldon, do you really routinely move boot drives between dissimilar
hardware without any prep?  How dissimilar?  If the
motherboards/chipsets are different I'd say you're very lucky.
