   My assumption here is that you are using a twinax console.

   Do a manual IPL to a restricted state.  That will bring you up using the
   QCTL controller rather than the CTL01 controller.
   I guess is that the CTL01 controller is configured as the wrong type.  If
   you delete it and then reconfigure it to match
   the QCTL type or turn QAUTOCFG back on, the normal IPL should work.

   Simon : Thanks for the info re: A9002000.

   So is this what thappens if QAUTOCFG is set to OFF? It seems odd that by
   changing this sys-val it can cause the system to 'hang' during IPL! But
   until I can sign on to the AS400 I cannot check this - any ideas on how I
   can force the AS400 to accept my monitor as the console and to get a
   sign-on screen?

   "Note: You may be able to use the console service functions (65+21) to
   assist in a recovery or to gather debug data." - Could you elaborate on
   this please?
