Ron,

The existing disks are correct. Because IBM puts RAID stripes on 2, 4, or 8 drives and you have seven, the first four have RAID strips cutting their usable capacity by 25% each. The others benefit from RAID protection but are not reduced in size. Thus they are at the full 35GB size.

Adding 70GB Drives is OK but you will need to add at least two to start but they would need to be mirrored or you'll be unprotected. You COULD add three to form a the minimum sized RAID set but this would perform very poorly as the drives would show up as 35GB 35GB and 70GB. This configuration just isn't recommenced for production systems. I would add a minimum of four of them to form a better performing RAID set. Of course these won't go into the 520 itself because that holds only 8 drives so you'll need some sort of expansion unit to hold them and RAID card to drive them. This opens up an entire new line of things to consider.

Hope this helps!!

I've got a couple of questions regarding the disks in my 520.

First, I've got 7-4326 (35gb) drives installed all into one ASP and it is
running RAID-5. The first 4 show their size in WRKDSKSTS as 26373, the next
3 show 35165, is this correct, or does it mean something's not configured
correctly?

Second, I've just realized that our disk usage requirements are growing much
faster than originally anticipated. I am looking at buying a couple of 4327
(70gb) disk drives. Will I be able to add these into the system as-is? Or,
will I need to make some changes? Can I get by with just adding 1, or will I
have to add 2 or more?
