>From IBM's perspective, it's not about sales, it's about profit.  They no
doubt know the demand and have established a price that maximizes profit
compared to cost at that level.  If it's making money then it will survive
unless they come up with something that will make them more money.  In that
case why not produce both, unless the new product would be a replacement
for the existing line?  Hey, that sounds like the AS/400 to iSeries to i5
evolution.

If are only chance of survival is if sales drop, then if sales increase
several fold, and continue to do so, then we are doomed?

how are the new i5 systems selling?  I think our only chance of
surviving is if sales drop and IBM is forced to introduce pricing
parity between the i5 and p5.

What he said in the interview that caught my attention had nothing to
do with databases.  Gray said when he went to work for DEC he and
everyone else thought the company was healthy, but in actuality it was
in a "power dive". What is our system doing lately?
