Where can I get info as to what the difference is between scs/ipds/afpds?

See the following:
        o Printer Device Programming manual
o the various Printing (IV to VII) Redbooks
o the IPDS & SCS Technical Reference
o the Mixed Object Document Content Architecture Reference
o the Presentation Text Object Content Architecture Reference
o the Image Object Content Architecture Reference
o the Graphics Object Content Architecture for APF Reference
o the Bar Code Object Content Architecture Reference
o the Font Object Content Architecture Reference

If you're using scs vs ipds vs afpds what would that mean from a technical standpoint and are there any tradeoffs in one vs. the other?

Depends what you're trying to achieve. SCS is for simple text printing but has some support for graphics. IPDS is a hardware implementation for graphical printing. AFP is full-blown text, images, graphics, bar codes, etc.

Does anyone have an answer for the original question?
