Great pictures and you do live in a beautiful location but that white stuff
on the ground with the house picture shows me that it's a little too cool
for this bird. God directed me to fly south and now I am happy to be
considered a GD Yankee who has no desire to go North of the Mason-Dixon
line. You didn't mention but I take it that you do live in the good old
USA.

Irish-Studios can be found at 40 and Plumb- 40 miles out and plumb back in
the sticks. :-)

This actually is a picture of my house (where my office is):

And this is my high-speed internet connection-the satellite dish on my barn:

Subject: Rural Outsourcing

I just read the Feb iSeries News magazine Industry Observer column by Sharon
Hoffman. In it, she says:

"Generally outsourcing has had a negative effect on IT employment in the
United States, and many IT professionals deplore the trend towards
outsourcing. However, if you live in certain parts of the United States,
particularly in rural areas, there's another side to the outsourcing story.
Instead of losing your job to outsourcing, you might find that outsourcing
lets you put your IT skills to work without relocating to another part of
the country. Those who advocate so-called "rural outsourcing" point out
that it avoids many of the problems inherent in outsourcing to companies
overseas. Companies that use rural outsourcing don't face criticism for
taking jobs away from American workers, all employees share a common
language and the time differences are minimal."

Huh! Turns out that I have a legitimate title now for what I do, "Rural
Outsourcing!" I think I'll put it on my business cards now! :-)

But she does make a great point. Why in the world would any company want to
send programming work to India when you can get quality, reasonably priced
work done right here in the U.S. through the use of rural-outsourcers?
