We have 2 machines in-house. I believe all of our software packages are licensed on both of our systems. I'm not sure about the prices we pay for having software on 2 systems; I do know that some are nastier than others...

We just returned from our disaster recovery test. All of our software vendors allow using their software for a DR test without an additional fee. This is a 3rd machine at a DR site. Some require us to complete a form certifying that we will remove all software from the DR machine at the conclusion of the test. Some issue unlocking keys under a "30 day free trial" license. Other software has a built-in grace period-- it will run on any system for a limited time. The grace period varies from 5 to 30 days; the IBM OS/400 will run for 70 days IIRC.
