My 2 cents...
Using program_described output, I've used succesfully up to 298 chars wide.
I think it's more a matter of wether the printer will print something still readable or not. In our case, the network printer using A$ paper, printed fairly good reports that wide (298) using
OVRPRTF ... CPI(20)  ... sideways of course... ( ...ROTATE(*AUTO) )
I don't think it can go much further than that and still be readable...

I've not tried it, but maybe a smaller-pitch font would work. Trouble is, you might still be limited by number of characters. But PAGESIZE can also be specified using inches, so maybe you could get away with something. Anyone else know?
