The business processes you refer to are not the interface issues I was
referring to. Take the modality of the typical green screen Order Entry
program for example. It is a factor when you want a better UI. Users
can recognize the difference. Either the app has to be changed or you
need a transformation tool that will likely add overhead compensating
for the underlying limitations (compositing or sequencing multiple
screens in the background).

I see this whole world different. I have spent time learning about user experience. One of the huge mistakes we make as green screen developers is packing fields on a screen. One panel, one function can enhance the user experience in most cases, and the application can be less and less modal. However, traditional green screen development lends itself to complicate the user experience. It is my opinion, regardless of the poor GUI approaches that seem rampant, that a well designed GUI can enhance the user experience. And, that well designed GUI could be running the same modal 5250 application in the background. These are not mutually exclusive.

Well, I wouldn't get hung up on the name for starters and I wouldn't see
the developer as the problem. Most developers want new technology, it's
management that decides when it's worth it.
I disagree wholeheartedly. The world of the typical green screen developer is SEU and PDM, and it takes a LOT of work to have them even attempt WDSC and RSE. Open-minded is not a paradigm in that world.
