Midrange News (California Software) not too long ago was using links on their web stuff that was not approved by the owners of the material. At least, that is my basic memory of things. To get more on this, look up "midrange news" in the list archives. California Software and Midrange News are generally considered disreputable folks in the iSeries world. At least on this list. ;-)

And there are a few iSeries software vendors that have been in bed with them, why I don't know - Oh, yeah - PPP -- perceived possible profit. But California Software's intent is get people off the iSeries completely. And onto Windows.

Subject: Mid Range News Response

I had previously sent an email (I know I should not do that as it typically
wastes my time on issues that do not directly affect me) to Mid Range News
and here is basically the no response response:

"Thank you for your note. We always welcome hearing from people in the
iSeries community even when they disagree with us. We are, however, always
interested in reporting on factually correct information. If there is a
factual error that has been made, please let us know what is. We will
investigate it and if we find it is inaccurate, we will gladly retract it.

I must share with you that it seems that California Software has gotten
a "bad rap" for wishing to dismantle the iSeries community and that is
simply not true. We love the AS/400 environment, it's why we believe it
should have the ability to operate on other platforms and with other
databases and have created the ability to do just that. We feel that the
future of the environment and the applications developed within it have a
stronger future with the freedom to run on Linux, Windows or Unix platforms,
IN ADDITION to the i5.

Whether you agree with us or not, we are still pleased to hear from you."

If you bought it, it was hauled by a truck - somewhere, sometime.
