All good points & questions.  By the time our night operator returned, I had
a laundry list of things that could be automated, or semi-automated.  My
boss prioritized them nearly to the bottom of the list (and rightly so).

But the night operator is here to stay.  Printing (loading forms, moving
pallets of paper, etc.) and waiting between boxes takes up the bulk of his
time.  The "between boxes" time is when he tends to all of his system jobs.
So it's easy to see why we haven't expended the effort to streamline the
night jobs.

So many monsters to slay, so little time.
