you are absolutely correct Don. ( and you write well also! ) I would
add, having just heard of V5R4 at my local user group, that the
technical drift of the system is kind of shocking. Are subroutines
in CL a more pressing need than CL recognizing prototypes and being
able to call ILE procedures in an RPG free type manner? At least when
the system was moving towards being a pSeries there was a sense of
technical direction. Everyone wants more advertising. I want more
features for the people who program the system. Log the statements of
an sql procedure to the joblog. Just like a cl program does. SQL is
so important on the system now. CL has to be able to at least call an
sql procedure and receive parameters back. SQL in RPG has to be able
to receive result sets back from sql procedure calls. *prv signature
support in ILE service programs - It does not work as it should. *PRV
signatures should map the export numbers of the exports from their
value when the *PRV signature was *CURRENT to what they currently are.
Otherwise, what is the use? As is it service programs are risky things
to use in a shop. Technical minutae? maybe. but who in this
organization we rely on is aware of, let alone working on improving
the system as it needs?
