Well, see? When I started with computers there wasn't a Windows platform. You got the new stuff. I think thats great. :) Me, I am part of the Old World that gave you your New World.
Text-based is not punishment. Notice this list is text-based for instance? Part of the issue is that text-based works. Always. Everywhere. GUI is a demanding mistress.
As to the web interface... I do believe that this resolves a whole lot of deployment problems, but not all of the business problems.
Of course, again, with the browser we pay homage to Windows. Microsoft is determined to dominate the desktop, and is usurping the browser. 

But I wax dramatic....

users prefer the web.

this point) is that the application(s) have to be installed on each and
every workstation.  I like using the web interface because all of our
workstations already have the functionality, so there's no software to
install.

Two things that will interest you.  :)

If someone knows VB or VC++ then of course they'd use those.  However us

old RPG folks already know RPG, so Visual Age RPG is a logical extension
of our skills. IBM provided the means for us green screeners to update our applications to GUI but we ignored the opportunity. 

Visual Age RPG is for the iSeries.  It deploys on Windows, but it is for

the iSeries.  The product builds either Windows dll's  or Java thingies,

Why hasn't IBM created the same program for the iSeries?  I understand
