Rob,

I guess our LUG is one of the lucky ones; we actually have an IBM liaison on our board. Not only that, he actually does things for the group. Example: Since IBM won't be doing a road show (at least not here) for the announcements (V5R4, etc.) next month, they are going to use the group to host it, provide the speaker, and mail to all of their customers. Whether this is SOP or not, I don't know.

Even with this help, though, it is hard to get people interested in coming (but we've hashed that one around before). Finding new ones can be a pain. I even bought a couple of mailing lists a few years ago. Hundreds of names and letters sent. Only a few even responded to get their email address added to our newsletter distribution.

Says "...The reality of the situation is that we’re getting thousands of new customers moving onto the iSeries platform every year."

Who are those new customers and how do you get them interested in your LUG?

Will IBM do a mass mailing for you for all their iSeries customers in your locale? This way, they protect their customer list while the LUG still gets their word out.

It's not like there are any IBM reps in the area. I've talked to some local BP's and they've stumbled into shops they didn't even know had an iSeries (back when Domino was selling iSeries like flapjacks. Who knows, maybe it still is.).
