The downsides I see:

1) iSeries DASD is pricy
2) iSeries not the worlds fastest file server

You can work around problem #2 by using a IxS/IXA Windows PC, or a
Linux/AIX LPAR.

Thus price is the only sticking point. Beside easy backup/recovery what
benefits do you see to putting the multimedia files on the iSeries?  Do
those benefits out way the additional cost of iSeries DASD?
