I've used Websmart for approx 5 years at one customer.
It is a very effecient tool.
There is a pc development "client" and
a required iSeries "server" (mostly error handling, etc) and
requires very little overhead.
They client & server can be purchased separately
The generated RPGLE seems very efficient.
This tool has been enhanced continuously, has great support,
and for the order entry system I wrote, it's been many years
since any issue needing a support call.
As with any tool, the payback is in generating applications faster, cleaner than
just coding the rpg/cgi yourself.

Subject: WebSmart anyone?

(Posted to the Midrange-L and Web400 lists)

Hi all,

Has anyone used BCD's WebSmart product? A colleague of mine is
evaluating iSeries Web Dev. Tools and has asked me to do some research
for him.
Does it need a run-time component in each server to be run? Any ideas
about the cost?
Thanks for your help. If you prefer, you can contact me off-list at:

Thanks for your help,
