Rob,
We are an automotive company, and the main EDI we send outbound
is and ASN or advanced ship notice. We have had to use the j-com
services a couple of times per year, at 15-20 dollars a document it is
dramatically cheaper than backup datelines and offsite servers. What we
fax over is usually a shipper, which would contain most of the
information needed to send an ASN. If the fax machine is not working we
can call them on the phone and read them the information.
I have argued in the past for redundant data lines and we are
considering some options. It would probably not be worth it to invest in
an offsite hot backup.

Subject: Re: EDI backup

What would you fax (etc) if your hardware was down? Most of that stuff
would be stored on your i5. If it's down, it's down.

As far as communcations go - get multiple lines. One to your local
telco.
And then another one to bypass it. For example our wireless tower to
one
of our plants 30 miles away. That should cover the moron with the
trenching tool down the street.

For a quote, try suggesting a Mimix or iTera solution at an offsite
location. Granted, it probably won't be the low-ball solution but when
it
hits the fan do you want to be the one who says the backup solution is
to
fax stuff to the backup place. When:
1 - You can't fax because your lines are down
2 - Or you can't fax because the report is still in the i5, and that
went
casters up.
