I will check on each of these questions and get the correct answers
directly from the product groups here at Microsoft. I will have the
answers posted back in the next day or so.

David -

There's no need to check - the answers are quite clear on the web page that you provided...

It is quite obvious that you're NOT technical, rather a MARKETING person, and that this is an add-on for SQL Server 2005.

Microsoft OLEDB Provider for DB2
The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 is a COM component for integrating vital data stored in IBM DB2 databases with new solutions based on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and Developer Edition. SQL Server developers and administrators can use the provider with SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, Replication, and Distributed Query Processor. Run the self-extracting download package to create an installation folder. The single setup program will install the provider and tools on both x86 and x64 computers. Read the installation guide and Readme for more information.

This is of little use for the average iSeries installation, since we don't typically install any flavor of SQL Server on the average user's desktop.

However, it could be useful for shops that have web applications integrated with their iSeries - AS/400 databases.

I saw that also. I dont follow. What is the point of a DB driver

to another database seems similar to having server side cursors ...
ado.net discourages the use of server side cursors.

Not useful in a client environment unless it can be installed without
SQL
Server 2005.

If I missed something, please let me know.

subject: New DB2/400 Drivers Officially Released from Microsoft...

On Monday, Microsoft announced new drivers for DB2/400 as part of the
Visual Studio 2005 product launch.

The OLE DB Driver for DB2 supports connectivity over TCP/IP and can be
considered a replacement for IBM Client Access. In this scenario, the
customer does NOT need to license Microsoft Host Integration Server
2004
which is how the drivers were traditionally distributed. As always,
test your applications before replacing any other technology to ensure
100% compatibility. The drives are a free download.

The driver supports IBM DB2 for OS/400 V5R1 and later to support an
SNA
LU6.2 or TCP/IP network connection.
