Does anyone have there systems scheduled to power down in order to run
an IPL? Can anyone think of a reason why that would be necessary?

We ipl once a month, whether we need to or not.

During the 'ipl' we save some libraries that we can never seem to get a clean lock on (even with save while active), reorganize some application files, and install any PTFs and application upgrades necessary.

One advantage of a regular schedule means the users are used to it, and we don't have to struggle and beg for permission to IPL whenever we need to install software upgrades.

Plus, no matter how much everyone claims it really isn't necessary, I think giving the machine a chance to clean up after itself is A Good Thing. (:
