Perhaps with third party products.

Nearly everyone supports JDBC access though.  When we needed to access SQL 
Server data we looked at one third party product and threw it out.  Then 
we contracted Joe Pluta to write a java program to use jdbc to access the 
SQL Server data.  He's also done it with MySql.  We call the java from 
rpgle using a rpgle front end program he wrote.

See, I like to bait Joe on occasion, but at least I have the decency to 
write him a check.
