Eons ago in S/36 land it talked to mainframe using something called RJE = remote job entry. The S/36 transmitted to the mainframe what amounted to a user-id and password. The mainframe sent back what amounted to a spool file entry that had been created for that user-id. Dunno if that helps. 


Here's a good one for you all...  VSE to iSeries back to VSE

Is there some sort of common communication program(s)/facility wherein
a VSE program can call an iSeries CMD file (which is starting some REXX
programs) and when the REXX programs are finished, send return codes of
success/non-success back to the VSE programs so they can act
accordingly?
