We are on v5r3. The purchase was an upgrade but I am still being told it
is a customer setup and install. Granted, our local IBM SE has been
very willing to help as he can.

First of all if you purchased this an UPGRADE then IBM should be out
there
doing the at least the HW for you.

Now on to Migrating the SW...

#1 You must be on V5R3 on the 820 to do an IBM "Supported"
upgrade/migration

#2 If there is room to at least temporarily install your 820 disks you

could do a Loadsource Migration

#3 If you have purchased all new disk and won't be bringing any over
then
the Unload/Reload is your option.

#4 There should be Readme First / Start Here piece of paper or card
with
the 520

#5 Here is a link the migration Redbook

Subject
820 to 520 migration

Next weekend we plan on moving from a model 820 to a model 520 and
have
a few questions, seeing as how this is "a customer install", our first
of these sorts.

Where can I find documentation on how to do this? I assume we perform
a
GO SAVE option 21 on the 820 and then restore on te 520. Does that
sound
right?

Also we are migrating some tape cards, iop cards, and other comm cards
to the new box. How do I know where they should be placed?

Will the resource names be "automatically" reconfigured during the
restore? In other words, if I am using CMN02 in a line description, do
I
need to manually change that line description to match the new
resource
on the 520, or will it somehow find the new resource?

Thanks,
Dave
