Some users do not know why something bombed ... the error messages are either unintelligible to them, or they incapable of seeing them.

Similarly no good ASKING people what they use, because 90% of the time it is "I goto MY MENU (no such menu name) then take option 3 then option 4 then option 2 (and if they do keystroke error 432 instead, also do not know why the end program did not run right.

There's also the method of deleting everything and then waiting for the
phone to ring. The users will tell you which programs that they use. <g>
This will also test your backup procedure to make sure that you are backing
up everything that you need.

10/12/2005 03:16 PM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion

Hi All,

We have (I'm sure of it!) many internally-written programs that have
been rewritten and are currently in use. However, the programmers
failed to remove the old program code and objects out of our AS/400,
resulting in many duplicated programs that may or may not be in use. I
have been tasked to figure out what objects are currently in use and
what objects can be removed.

Is there an easy way to determine when a program was last run and
whether or not is it currently in use? I'd really like to be able to
say "show me all programs that have not been accessed in 2005" or
something to that effect.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Brian.
