Everything affects performance.  The question is "Will it be noticeable?".

Are you running a 570 with 600 disk drives and a TB of memory that is at 
cpu utilization .05% and disk utilization of 10%, and while the file has 
51million records, only 5 individual records are written on a daily basis, 
then I'd say you won't notice it in the least.  On the other hand, a B10 
may up and hurl.
