I have had this happen to me a couple of times over the years and found
the only way to make the job go away is to IPL.  Like yours, there were
no spool files, I did end *IMMED then end ENDJOBABN and it still
wouldn't go away.  IBM's rather vague hemming and hawing seemed to say
"Sometimes this just happens", I've never gotten a good answer.  The
best sounding guess I've heard is there might be some type of comm
failure between the workstation (even in emulation) and the box.
