Hearing what, Rob? That you're wrong? :-)Actually, I agree with you. Leaving a conference early means you only got 80-80% of what you paid for. Except for critical business needs, there is no reason to leave early. And those reasons, such as a natural disaster (which happened to me once), usually occur after you start the conference, not before.
Managers who insist upon someone being back at work on Friday either (a) don't see the value in the conferences in the first place, and/or (b) think of it as a vacation or reward for something. I've never had a boss, even a non-technical one, ask me to cut a conference short. Perhaps one of the reasons is that I'll print the grids and ask, "You see anything that you especially want me to attend?" Usually their so overwhelmed by the list of sessions they just mumble something and tell me to go away.
