After trying this, the ls command showed the same file name.
I am going to try Scotts' suggestion and change my code that created the file.
It seems that the iSeries does not display invalid characters after the file 
name.

There's no filesystem name. Is it in QDLS by any chance, or is 
ifsreports in the root filesystem? When you use a leading "/" you're 
specifying that it is, regardless of what your local directory setting 
is at the time. If you run qsh, you can use cd to navigate to the folder 
containing the file, ls (lower case L) to see what's in there, and pwd 
to see what the current path is.
