Hi Allen

We use a 3rd party product[1] that writes PDFs direct to the IFS, and
if they are codepage/CCSID 1252 then I can't read them from my Linux
box. That is, I can't read them direct from the IFS that I have
mounted on my Linux system. If the PDFs are created as codepage/CCSID
850 (which is what any files I create on the IFS from Linux appear as)
then I can view them fine.

If I FTP the 1252 codepage PDF from the IFS to my system, then the
iSeries FTP server translates the codepage to my native 850, and I can
view it fine. IBM's NFS server doesn't appear to do any codepage
translations, unlike FTP. I *think* that the same 1252 codepage PDF on
the IFS are viewable from my Linux system if I mount the same IFS
directory as a NetServer share via Samba, but I'm not sure - I can
test that on Monday if it would help.

Regards, Martin
